Childbirth Education

What is childbirth education?

A CBE, or Childbirth Education, class is a curriculum that helps parents feel more confident and empowered regarding what to expect, what types of things to consider when building a birth plan, and help envision your ideal birth so you can set yourself up for success.

Join me for virtual or in-person classes for individuals, couples, or groups discussing pregnancy, labor, and postpartum in a more holistic way.

What are the benefits of participating in a childbirth education class?

Parents who take cbe often feel more prepared, understand what’s happening and what to expect, get a feel for their options throughout pregnancy, labor, delivery, and postpartum, and generally feel more empowered with information.

The birth partner also feels more calm and confident and aware of their process, which helps them to know how best to support and advocate alongside the birthing parent.

How is it different from the hospital-based class?

I highly recommend taking the hospital-based class AND a private cbe class because the hospital one often includes:

  • A tour of the L&D floor and individual room(s)

  • How to get from the main entrance to L&D, both during the daytime or at night

  • Common things that you’ll encounter (triage rooms, IVs and IV poles, delivery beds, birth or peanut balls, etc.)

  • Hospital procedures (visitor limits, pain relief options, in-room amenities, etc.)

  • Logistics for billing, paperwork, intake, triage, and after-care

This class goes beyond that! It also goes beyond the old-school Lamaze classes that previous generations were used to.

We’ll discuss:

  • pregnancy

  • stages of labor

  • advocacy and planning

  • movement and comfort techniques

  • anatomy and physiology

  • postpartum recovery

  • infant feeding

  • newborn care

  • mental health

  • community resources

  • and more!
